 Although a professional neuroscientist, ceramics has been a part of Lucie's life since the age of 9. Growing up in South Africa and influenced by many of the local crafts, she was also inspired by Bernard Leach and his use of earthy colours. Lucie Rie inspired her focus on simple forms. Several visits to Japan have inspired her more recent focus on functional tableware and a preference for porcelain over stoneware and earthenware. 

 

Although Lucie's preference is for wheel work and she is very particular about perfection of form, she has enjoyed combining wheel and hand work where appropriate.
