Artists Studios: How to apply for a studio

To apply for a studio space at ArtWorks, please contact our applications team.

APPLICATION PROCEDURE

Please submit the following:

  1. Application fee of £10 (payable to Cambridge Artworks Ltd)
  2. Completed application form.
  3. Brief statement about your practice.
  4. Curriculum Vitae (including qualifications, awards, exhibitions and commissions.)
  5. Visual documentation of your work in the form of 10 – 20 images, digital or printed. Please ensure all images are numbered and include a separate sheet with the following details:
  6. Title
  7. Date
  8. Dimensions (cm)
  9. Medium
  10. Two references - personal and professional.

Be aware that members of Cambridge Artworks Ltd will vote on the following criteria:

  1. The quality of the artist’s work
  2. Practice demonstrates commitment, evidence of genuine critical investigation and innovative artistic exploration.
  3. Willingness to contribute to the running of Cambridge Artworks as well as being an active member at events.  Motivated to discuss, take part, share and bring ideas to the group, that spring from your practical or/and academic enquiry.
  4. Your needs for a studio at Artworks. How your work will benefit from being part of Artworks’ cooperative.

Recent graduate applications:

In order to encourage young artists, Cambridge Artworks proposes selecting one recent graduate each year, at the same studio rate.  This will give an opportunity to a young artist to have a space and not be in competition with more experienced artists.

Selection Process

  1. Applications are reviewed every 4 months by the selection committee in order to determine the applicant’s suitability for a studio space.
    The deadlines for applications are:
    1st January, 1st May, 1st September
  2. Unsuccessful applicants will be notified and application material returned as soon as possible.
  3. Successful applicants will be placed on a shortlist in order of suitability, according to the selection criteria and spaces available.
  4. Suitable candidates will be invited for an informal meeting prior to offer of a studio space.
  5. Successful applicants not initially offered a space will be held on file for consideration at the next selection meeting.  Should a space come up in the meantime, they will be contacted, to see if they are still interested.
  6. At the next selection meeting in the year, all successful applicants will be reconsidered for available spaces.
On taking up a studio you are required to submit the following within the first week of your tenancy to a member of Communications. This will be placed on this website.
  • Artists Statement - approx 250 words. This may include contact details
    such as a link to your website and/or email address (if you wish to). This
    is to be typed, preferably in a Word (.doc) document format and emailed to
    the web editor.
  • At least two Images of work  -  preferably jpeg files of web quality (ie
    file size  not too large) at least 800px high, but any file type is
    acceptable. To be emailed to the web editor. If you wish you can also send
    an image of yourself working to be included on the website.
    Include your name in the file or folder name of all files sent to the web
    editor.
