Caroline Wendling For the last three years drawing has been my main focus. Received as a gift from my friends, I observed flowers and drew flowers. My drawings have grown in size and have become less representational. It is the unknown that interests me. Recently I began to make bas-reliefs. I work with paper, thread, cloth and plaster. The thread shapes the paper or the cloth. The plaster conceals, unifies and solidifies the pieces. The thread, used as mark making, unravels shapes that appear by accident. The work expresses movement, distance and sometimes total stillness. It involves repetition in order to say things louder or quieter. I am really excited about the possibilities of this new way of working. I am influenced by Louise Bourgeois and Eva Hesse. Although my work is very different from Fred Sandback, I am inspired by his use of space
