Rachel Wooler

I am interested in issues of memory, loss and traces and how these translate into visual media. I am currently exploring ways of making the intangible - emotions, memory, belief - tangible, through visual representation.

My work tends to be 3D. I enjoy the possibilities of 3D materials and the challenge of harnessing them to an emotional or intellectual visual goal. I like to use materials in ways which replicate the purpose of the work.  I work in plaster, latex, metal, textile and film. My work explores the interrelation between the artwork and the process of viewing. I like the idea that a piece might change - diminish, expand or even disappear altogether-  depending on how it is viewed.
