TEXTILES EXPLORATION

Tutor: Roger Prime

10-week course starting 8th & 11th September
Mondays 9.30am – 12.30pm
and Thursdays 6pm – 9pm

Students will have the opportunity to learn new textile techniques and processes, or expand on those already known to create finished pieces of work. The course will encompass papermaking, hand embroidery, block printing on fabric, dying and felting. Working closely with all students, your tutor will encourage you to develop your ideas into wonderful finished pieces. Suitable for those who have little or no prior knowledge.

THE ART OF THE ELEMENTS: EARTH, WATER, AIR AND FIRE

Tutor: Alexandra Drysdale

10-week course starting 8th September
Mondays 6.30pm – 9pm

The aim of the course is to develop a greater understanding of how the imagination transforms the Elements of Earth, Water, Air and Fire into symbols of  Body, Soul, Mind and Spirit.

We will study the way artists from the past have painted the Elements, either literally or symbolically and this will lead us into making our own paintings and drawings. Students can either work in a structured way from still-lives or in a free expressive way.

LIFE DRAWING

for all levels of experience

Tutor: Mark Rigby

10-week course starting 9th September
Tuesdays 6pm – 9pm

Led by two experienced and qualified tutors you will be introduced to a range of strategies, techniques and approaches to drawing the human figure. Small group sessions with a high level of one to one tutor interaction. Topics covered include line, tone, form, proportion, movement, foreshortening.

PAINTING FOR PROFESSIONALS

10-week sessions starting 10th September
Wednesdays 10 am – 1pm

Untutored open painting sessions for professional artists. Work on your own painting projects in the company of like-minded experienced artists in a bright airy space. Bring along your materials and bounce ideas off one another. Provides an opportunity to develop your practice in a mutually supportive environment.

VISUAL EXPRESSION THROUGH PAINT

Unlock your creativity by learning to paint intuitively and spontaneously with the support and guidance of a professional artist. Exercises are designed to release students' potential through development of an independent vision. Students will be able to recognise their potential as creators, to sustain concentration, to trust their vision, to confidently express their imagination through technique, shape, form, and colour and to understand the power of the creative mind.

Suitable for all levels of ability from complete beginner to more experienced artists.

STONECARVING

Tutor: Esther Joseph

Courses are running continuously:
Thursdays 10am – 8pm
Saturdays 10am – 5pm

There are no term dates - sessions are run continuously.  Work in 3-hour blocks during the above sessions, either day or evening.
Learn stone carving in a relaxed and stimulating environment… be prepared to make new friends!  Work in sculptor’s own studio or outside in good weather.
Suitable for all levels of ability from complete beginner to the more experienced.

Cost: £20 per 3-hour session or £185 for 10 weeks booked in advance. All carving equipment is provided and the first stone is free. For further information, please call.

Discover the art of storytelling by working with simple mark-making, drawing and monoprint techniques. Using an intuitive approach, you will discover how to unlock ideas and stories within you, and to weave image and text together create one or more narratives, which you will put together into a simple booklet.

MONOPRINTING

PLAYFUL, HANDS-ON, CREATIVE AND FUN

One Day workshop suitable for beginners; those who’ve done a bit of printmaking and people who are just curious to try something new!

Printmaking is a lot of fun. My workshop will explore the exciting and spontaneous possibilities of monoprinting. Used by Picasso, Degas and Rembrandt monoprints are one off images, which can are transferred from a flat surface onto the paper by hand – so you can try this at home! Bring along photocopies of images you like, sketches, photographs, ideas, enthusiasm and an open mind. Also an apron and old cloths!

DRAWING WITH THE EYE OF THE HEART

An introduction to life drawing using the teaching method of Cecil Collins who taught at the City Literary Guild, London. The aim of his teaching is to “open the eye of the heart” of each student using the discipline of drawing. He likened this to chamber music, as if the musical instruments were an extension of
your body.

CERAMIC TILES

One day workshop

This is a practical workshop, which will teach you a range of traditional techniques. You can experiment with different kinds of clay and coloured slips to inscribe, stencil, sponge, sprig, and inlay patterns and textures. Tiles made in this way are suitable for all kinds of uses around the home and garden.

Come and have an enjoyable day on an introduction to Nuno felting, a wonderful technique of inlaying fabric into felt to create textured finished pieces. Create a wonderful scarf for yourself or as a gift for one of the family. No previous knowledge needed.

KNITTED WIRE JEWELLERY

One day workshop

Create beautiful jewellery by knitting with coloured wire and beads. Knitted sculptural pieces can be manipulated and sewn into beautiful bracelets, neckpieces and brooches. Create unique pieces with very basic techniques that are ideal to give as a present for someone special, or to keep for yourself.
